The Green Man Gallery Autumn Collection Extensive and exhibitions by our Resident Artists and Guest Designer Makers including: paintings in oils, acrylics, watercolours and mixed media; oil pastels; pencil drawings; linocuts, monoprints, collagraphs, etchings and woodblock prints; photography; ceramics; textiles; jewellery; mounted prints and a wide range of cards. Open Studios Visit our Resident Artists' studios on the first floor. You are welcome to go in and view work in progress or chat to the artists when they are working. Inspired by the group What if Craftivists, we have been working on a new project for the summer months. The plan is to create a large banner celebrating our beautiful local environment and the creatures which live in it, using a mixture of knitting, crochet and sewing. Would you like to knit some leaves and flowers? Or a swarm of bees? Crochet a hedgehog? Create backgrounds in applique? All contributions will be welcome . Drop in to find out more. Tutor - Geoff Chilton shows you how to develop upir sketchbook practice to help you find your drawing style. The workshop explores ways in whihc you can use your sketchbook as a creative tool. Quinta's wide repertoire, ranges from Clifford Brown to the contemporary sounds of Kenny Wheeler and the early 60s funk of Wes Montgomery, and incorporates music from South Africa and original compositions. Featuring saxophone (Mike Dale), trumpet (Bob Dinn), piano (Barry Mansfield), bass (Warwick Stephenson) and drums (Huw Owens), Quinta provides a refreshing change for lovers of jazz, bringings new shades of texture and meaning to a varied and interesting programme of modern, contemporary and world jazz. Tuesday 31st October to Sunday 20th November: The Well-Keepers Art Group Exhibition A Serpentine Community Garden project led by eco-artist Ruby Sufi, exploring the lives of women who lived at the Lismore Fields neolithic site. This fascinating exhibition will include items made using fibres created from scratch using plants growing locally. More details coming soon. Launch evening: Monday 30th October – 6.30 to 8.30pm. The result of a collaboration with English Touring Opera, Buxton Spoken Words members and guests perform original writing inspired by Rossini’s ‘Cinderella’ and Monteverdi’s ‘The Coronation of Poppea’, coming to Buxton Opera House in early November. The performance will include a poem comm. issioned by ETO from a local writer. Everyone attending will be offered a chance to book discounted tickets to the opera performances. 7pm to 9pm (Doors open 6.30pm). Tickets £2 in advance or on the door.
