Laura Hyland
I am a mixed media contemporary artist. I like to explore the human condition and have highlighted in my work refugee stories, the Syrian war and the plight of these people as they flee their home lands and travel in desperation across the ocean, along with unaccompanied children in the refugee camps. I've also produced work on the Grenfell Tower tragedy in which my friends’ family perished, the up and coming artist Kadigha Saye and her mother Mary. Another topic I've covered is the loss of a child. |
On a much lighter note, after a holiday in Spain, I created what I believe are beautiful paintings celebrating the music and dance of Spain. These were displayed in May 2022 at the Leek Open Studio and Arts Trail and are now hanging at The Green Man. I've also been involved with the Buxton Spa Prize where my piece was commended by the Mayor of the High Peak at the time.
My most recent work has been much more intuitive. I mark make and follow where it takes me with some interesting results. I tend to work quite big but I'm now also experimenting with some smaller pieces.
