I create a variety of work and am always looking to expand my personal practice. A great deal of my work involves hand embroidery stitching, free machine embroidery, wax entrapment and the inclusion of found objects which have value as reminders of things passed.
I have recently done a series in encaustic collage based on the world wars, called “All That Remains”. This series uses actual letters from soldiers and servicemen on active service to their families at home, plus excerpts from diaries from The Holocaust.
I am also preparing new work telling the story of a man, Mr Jarvis, who survived one world war, only to be killed in the second when he was called back to work for the war effort in his 70s.
Many of my other pieces are based on the Peak District and Buxton itself, using stitched fabric and wax entrapment. Recently I have been experimenting with fine art style collages and, being fascinated by birds, I have completed collages based on quirky bird characters.
