Mouseley Bottom, New Mills
Oil on canvas          37 x 29 inches          £295

I began painting seriously on retirement six years ago; I attend an artist's studio workshop once a week. I wanted to see if I could rediscover the passion for art which had consumed me as a child, when art was my first love and gave me a sense of who I was and was intended to be.

The last six years have been a thrilling journey of exploration and as I have gained confidence as an artist I have learnt to experiment with a variety of media; Although my first love is oil painting I also paint watercolours, particularly flowers, and sometimes use acrylic paints and mixed media.

Landscape and the natural world are a constant source of inspiration, especially trees and water. I am fascinated by the challenge of capturing light and reflections. I paint the world around me in New Mills but also gain inspiration from travels both in this country and abroad.

It is humbling and thrilling when people respond positively to my work. It is a privilege to create something which others can appreciate and take delight in.

A. Sharing a Peach
Acrylic on canvas              50 x 50cm                 £250

B. Tea with Tangerines
Acrylic on canvas              50 x 50cm                 £250

Sometimes I paint what is in my life, sometimes I paint what isn't. These still lives are concerned with the everyday act of all the cups of tea we share with people across a lifetime. If written down, the accompanying conversations would tell its entire story.

I work in all media, mainly oils and acrylics, in a dynamic between abstraction and loose figuration, constantly trying to find the right balance between spontaneity and deliberation.

A. Rust Red Bracken, Millstone Edge
Acrylic on canvas              12 x 12 inches          £140

B. Winter Sunlight, Ladybower
Acrylic on canvas              12 x 12 inches          £140

I am a painter and printmaker working in the Peak District, Derbyshire. I prefer to work out of doors whenever possible, and use a limited palette, sometimes working on small sheets of hardboard and with just a few tubes of paint.

This "restriction" helps to distil the essence of a scene without getting confused by too many details or mixing up too many colours. I paint directly at the scene if the weather permits, or back in the studio from a sketch or idea worked up from a photograph.
